State District Judge Thomas Fitch said he was kicking his alcohol habit and was down to his last bottle on a February morning as he drove up Interstate 25 toward Santa Fe.
He said he intended to throw the vodka jug in the trash at a rest stop. But first, he decided to take one last drink.
That drink led to another, and another. By the time he drove off the road in Santa Fe at little after noon, he was drunk and his judicial career was over.
Fitch, who was the chief judge of New Mexico's 7th Judicial District, had been trying to quit drinking. Details here from ABQjournal.com.
I had posted earlier about the worst day of Judge Fitch's life.
