Ohio Judge's Sealing of Own Divorce Records Creates Controversy

Judge Paulette Lilly's lips were sealed. And so, the fact that she'd had her own divorce records sealed came as a surprise to her colleagues on a state panel that is deciding which court records should be kept private. Lilly is co-chair of that panel.

Lilly, a Lorain County common pleas judge, filed for divorce last January from her husband, Nicholas Streza. At Lilly's request, Common Pleas judge David Basinski ordered her divorce file sealed last May.

Currently, Lilly is serving on the Privacy Subcommittee of the Supreme Court of Ohio Advisory Committee on Technology and the Courts.
