Congratulations Speaker Pelosi

Democrats wrest control of the House

WASHINGTON -- The Democratic Party wrested control of the House from the Republicans in today's congressional elections and were within reach of taking the Senate as well.

The Democrats won more than the net 15 seats they needed by winning 22 seats now held by the Republicans and losing none of their own. They left the political landscape littered with 15 defeated Republican incumbents and captured seven more seats held by retiring Republicans.

According to CNN right now, the Republicans have lost 25 seats in the House, and the Democrats have gained 26.

Congratulations to (presumed) House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She'll be the first woman ever to lead either house of Congress. It's about time. I live in her district, and I have met her. I support her 100 percent. I hope that in the next two years she will disprove the conservatives' alleged fears of her (she's a good politician, a natural leader, and not a radical), and demonstrate to this nation that it is Democrats, and not Republicans, who should lead us forward.
