In case you've been living in a cave for the past twelve hours or so, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has announced her retirement from the Supreme Court. I've been waiting by my phone all day, but -- oddly enough -- no one from the Bush Administration has yet called to inquire about my availability to serve.1 (Hint: I'm available.)
The Administration has said that "no decision [on a nominee] is expected until Bush returns on July 8 from the G8 summit in Scotland." So perhaps I shouldn't be too anxious . . . .
Continuing and comprehensive coverage of the expected nomination battle is promised at The Supreme Court Nomination Blog.
1 My great-great-great grandfather, E.R. Hoar, was nominated in 1870 but never confirmed by the Senate. I think my family deserves another chance. Don't you?
