San Jose Tax Attorney Sentenced for Cheating IRS

A veteran San Jose tax attorney was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison Tuesday for knowingly underestimating his own income and cheating the Internal Revenue Service out of more than half a million dollars, authorities said.

U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker also ordered Owen George Fiore to pay the government $626,623 in restitution and a $25,000 fine. Fiore, 70, who resigned from the California bar last month, is scheduled to report to prison on July 1.
