[It gets better after the jump . . . .]PROVIDENCE -- A Traffic Tribunal judge who'd been an early critic of disorder in the state traffic courts was arrested today on a charge of assaulting her heart-surgeon husband.
Associate Judge Marjorie R. Yashar, 64, was held for a special arraignment at the police station this afternoon, accused of stomping on her husband's foot.
She and Dr. James Yashar, 71, are going through a divorce, the police said.
The police were called about a domestic disturbance inside Dr. Yashar's medical office at 1 Randall Square. When they got there, police said in a report that Judge Yashar was "in a hysterical state" and told police she'd inadvertantly stepped on her husband's foot.
According to the police report, Dr. Yashar said an argument escalated and his wife threw papers and smashed a ceramic bowl in his office, and shoved him, stomping his foot.
Judge Yashar was arraigned on a charge of domestic simple assault behind closed doors at the police station. Afterward, she walked down the stairs at the Public Safety Complex accompanied by the police and her lawyer. The media was in the lobby. When a Journal reporter approached her and spoke, Judge Yashar's face tightened and she walked faster. As cameramen followed her outside to a waiting vehicle, she whirled around, pulled her coat over her head and ran back inside the safety complex. She ran up several flights of stairs with the police behind her.
For the next several minutes, in a voice loud enough to be heard throughout the three-story lobby, Judge Yashar yelled at the police officers about the media downstairs. ``I do not want to be in the newspaper tomorrow!'' she said.
It's a little late for that, don't you think? Details here from the Providence Journal-Bulletin.
