Attorney Convicted in Credit Card Scam Used to Pay for Law School

LOS ANGELES (AP) - An attorney accused of using a credit card scam to pay his way through law school was convicted of federal fraud and conspiracy charges.

Christian Ehlers, 29, of Rancho Palos Verdes, a 2001 graduate of Loyola Law School, was convicted by a jury Tuesday in U.S. District Court of one count of conspiracy, eight counts of using false names in a scheme to defraud, 11 counts of unauthorized use of credit cards and one count of wire fraud.

American Express, Citibank, Discover Card, First USA, Household Bank and Provider Bank lost $1.2 million in the scam, according to trial testimony.
