Wisconsin family law attorney James Paul O'Neil agreed to represent Erik Gracia in a divorce from his wife. Later, Gracia asked for his retainer back, informing the attorney that his wife had died. He also told him he might need representation in an unspecified criminal matter. When the cops came calling, the attorney turned over Gracia's file, without his permission or asserting attorney-client privilege. The cops charged Gracia with murder in the death of his wife, and he was convicted. The Wisconsin Supreme Court just upheld O'Neil's public reprimand and the $11,439 fine levied against him, The National Law Journal reports here.
