"The Marshall Plan"

Why has Marshall, Texas, a small town in East Texas near the Louisiana border, been the venue for some of the biggest patent disputes in the nation in recent years?

Most say it's the town's single Federal jurist, District Court Judge T. John Ward, who has a penchant for patent law and insists that cases proceed quickly, cleanly, and fairly. He's developed a set of Patent Rules that help zip things along.

And the plaintiff-friendly jury pool doesn't hurt, providing jurors who appreciate the business the big ticket lawyers and litigation bring to town.

Whatever the cause, Marshall's single federal courtroom has the third-largest docket of patent cases in the country, exceeded only by the Eastern District of Virginia and the Northern District of California. Read all about it here from The Recorder, via Law.com.
